Reminds me of the Gacha Anime Horse Girl game called Uma Musume Pretty Derby. All of the racers are girls with horse ears and all have names similar to what you would see at a racetrack. Except that they live together in human dwellings and have human-like relationships.

I'm trying to work backwards and figure out what in the Japanese culture might lead to them watching horse racing and then deducing that these are the next logical steps. I mean, I can visualize that happening here, but drugs would likely be involved.
