Zhou Zi Shu, the disillusioned leader of a royal secret service (assassins), takes drastic measures to leave his former life behind and wanders the pugilist world. The Imperial Coroner tells the unusual tale of Chu Chu, a young lady from a family of coroners who wants to get into the “family business”. Hoping to realize her dream, she travels to Chang’An alone to take the Imperial Exam. There she meets Xiao Jinyu who also acts as a magistrate as part of his role as a Prince of Anjun. Jinyu recruits the meticulous and observant Chu Chu to partner with him to investigate cases including a 18 year old cold case that remains unsolved to this day. But their investigations lead them to suspect that there may be untold secrets pertaining to Xiao Jinyu’s family, while high-ranking civil servants hatch devious schemes – and the duo starts to wonder if their partnership could eventually take a romantic turn…

This was a delight! The young team were all super competent, the investigations conducted and explained really well despite being confined to the historical era. The shenanigans between the prince and his best friend and the prince and his brother were great and the girls instantly bonded! From a review site: viewers have found the cases tackled by Chu Chu, Jinyu and their merry band of investigators engaging and the show, “easy” to watch. The dialogue and the visuals are spot on, the logic meticulous and the plot fast paced.

Tian Guan Ci Fu or Heaven Official’s Blessing follows the story of a Crown Prince and immortal named Xie Lian who ascends into the heavenly realm for the third time after 800 years. Upon his third ascension as a god, he is tasked with supernatural missions in the Mortal World. Along the way, he meets a charming youth named, San Lang, who is actually disguised as the notorious and dangerous ghost king, Hua Cheng. In the series, Xie Lian looks for the person responsible behind all the evildoings in the heavenly and mortal realm. Xie Lian also tries to solve the secrets of his past, the most intriguing one being the unknown strong connection between Xie Lian and Hua Cheng.

Being powerful gods, ghosts, and demons, they were all human beings before they ascended and descended in the upper and lower realms. Heaven Official’s Blessing also makes you rethink the morally ambiguous characters. They may be powerful but they all have their limitations and fatal weaknesses.



This is technically BL but it's such a small section of the original novel that it's mostly world building and character introduction. Last week the live action adaptation began filming and is HIGHLY anticipated.

I believe Xie Lian rescues Hua Cheng when HC is a child but doesn't recognize him as a man/demon king 800+ years later. HC, from what I understand from the book, has always kept an eye on Xie Lian once he was old enough or able to or something, but XL doesn't connect him with the boy he saved from so long ago. This entirely nonexistant in the anime......

Scumbag System (Scum Villain's Self-Saving System = novel)

Shen Yuan was originally a reader of the harem/stallion novel Proud Immortal Demon Way, which he read all 6666 chapters of despite hating it. After reading it and dying, he accidently triggers a command and finds himself transmigrating into the novel's world, in the body of the original villain, Shen Qingqiu.

As he wakes, he is greeted by The System, and soon realizes that in order to avoid the character's fate of death by torture by the protaganist Luo Binghe, he must find a way to change the story. The System, however, does not allow him to act too out-of-character, resulting in Shen Qingqiu carefully abiding to the character while trying to stay on Luo Binghe's good side to get a happy ending for them both.



The reader - Shen Yuan HATES this book. Terrible writing, plot holes, etc and he reads all the way to the end hoping for some resolution to his questions but no. He dies in a freak accident at the computer and is sucked in - usually the person transmigrating ends up as the hero or the princess but here he is the villain with a terrible fate. So Shen Yuan as Shen Qingqiu needs to change things using his knowledge of the book plot. The System or computer controlling things gives and takes points and cryptic directions/quests and Shen Qingqiu's interactions with it are unexpectedly hysterical.

This is another short 10 ep - 20 minute run. Watch after the credits of ep 10 for the short set up for S2.

The story revolves around a sixth grade prefecture judge Tang Fan and a member of the imperial guard Sui Zhou who join hands to solve several huge crimes. They cooperate with Wang Zhi, the eunuch in charge of the Western Depot (Secret Police) who is also very close to the Emperor, unraveling the political schemes behind these cases and maintaining peace and order for the people. As they dig deeper into the series of crimes, the trio soon realize that something very sinister is afoot – including a plot to launch a bloody coup. Can they stop the criminal mastermind before time runs out?




Tang Fan is introduced as a foodie who writes erotic novels to make ends meet because he spends his money on expensive food. For 90% of the time he's a fantastic character with great investigating skills and then the other time he's lost his common sense - either about food or some random comedy bit, so he's a little uneven. This was a highly enjoyable show other than a few minor problems as most shows have. The plot was well woven and well executed AND has a whole pile of wonderful found family including the accidental child acquisition and with great family dinners.
