Lair of the White Worm (1988)

I had recently heard of this movie and how insane it is and I was not disappointed. In the English countryside, an eccentric noblewoman seeks to make sacrifices to a legendary beast that has given her vampiric powers. It is very loosely based on Bram Stoker's last book. It stars Hugh Grant and Peter Capaldi before they became stars which is mindblowing. Amanda Donohoe is sexy, terrifying, and hilarious. The dream sequences are obviously the product of heavy drug use. See below.

Exactly. That is the tamest (and sexiest) dream sequence. Other dream sequences include menacing snake women, weird green screen glitches, lots of blood, nuns getting impaled and/or raped, and Jesus getting eaten off of the cross by a snake. Both Amanda Donohoe and Hugh Grant show off their naked chests. Capaldi is in a kilt for much of the movie.

I inflicted psychic damage trying to explain this movie to my coworker so I may need to do a full write-up.

This is a better summary of Blood Dolls (1999) than I could write:

Hmmm. The first I thought of for the band was Kittie, but that almost certainly is not them. Looks like it was just four actresses put together. But yeah, that is rather David Lynch-ish.

Gingerclown (2013) aka Gingerclown 3D

No, I don't know what makes it 3D. A nerd is bullied into entering an abandoned amusement park in 1983 and is soon joined by the bully's girlfriend who he has a crush on. The amusement park is populated by inhuman monsters. The actors are relative unknowns but the villains are all famous genre actors. Tim Curry plays the titular clown villain and he is having fun with it even as he is literally phoning it in. After all, all of the villains are animatronics and their dialogue is done with voiceovers. Brad Dourif gives 150% as a disgruntled worm creature. Sean Young ends up being the scariest thing in the movie as a giant spider. This was a delight.

Also, the above trailer is hilarious because the narration does not fit with the tone of the movie. It's narrated like a Harry Potter trailer or something.

The Hallow (2015)

A man takes a job as a woodcutter out in the middle of nowhere in Ireland. Disturbing the woods brings something out of the woods and they want the couple's baby. It feels like Straw Dogs mixed with Pan's Labyrinth.

I Sell the Dead (2008)

Two Irish rapscallions work their way from the graverobbing business into the hidden world of the occult and the undead. A funny little horror movie inspired by the real-life graverobbers Burke and Hare but with an actual supernatural twist. This one gets weird in the best ways.

High Spirits (1988)

A hotel owner rebrands his establishment as a haunted attraction which pisses off the real ghosts who decide to show up. It has a dark humor that reminds me a bit of an Irish version of Mel Brooks.
