Re: Whatcha Watchin?
I enjoyed it............mostly. There's a main gay relationship and Nimona only identifies as a person so it's very LGBT. I liked the animation and the story even if some was predictable. I just though Nimona was............ a lot. She/they were always on 15 maybe 17 when she/they should maybe have turned it own to an 11 possibly a 10 due to circumstances. But I guess I'm just old and crotchety.
You should definitely put it on your list though!

Re: Whatcha Watchin?
I've finished ep 31 of Back From the Brink, ep 2 of Legend of Anle and I watched eps 1 of both The Longest Promise and Divine Destiny. The Longest Promise will likely go on the list. I was so hoping Divine Destiny was going to be watchable - but that looks like a no.

Re: Whatcha Watchin?
Warner Brothers is not completely doing DC Comics dirty. This week I looked at some great entries.
My Adventures With Superman
I thought little of this show when I first saw it but I thought I would check it out. It turns out that this show is starting to gain a following. Clark Kent and Jimmy Olsen have arrived in Metropolis to begin an internship with the Daily Planet but there is also work for Superman to do. The show is done in an anime style but is designed and produced by Warner Brothers. The show’s feel is a modern twist on the Richard Donner Superman movies. Jack Quaid does a great job embodying the cheerful boy scout demeanor of Clark Kent/Superman. Alice Lee voices probably my favorite version of Lois Lane that I have ever seen. She is a bit manic and excited to get ahead in the world of journalism. She is also refreshingly real. Ishmael Sahid voices the excitable Jimmy Olsen, Clark’s roommate and a conspiracy theorist. The show seems to lean heavily on technological villains instead of going the usual Luthor route. It is refreshing. I recommend this show.
Gotham Knights
When I heard about this show I was excited that they were adapting the video game that I enjoyed so much. I was both right and wrong. Bruce Wayne’s adopted son and a gang of criminals are accused of the death of Wayne who is quickly exposed as Batman. Oscar Morgan plays the invented character of Turner Hayes, Wayne’s son who is forthright and courageous. Olivia Rose Keegan plays the scene stealer Duela Dent, the Joker’s daughter. It is amazing to see this character adapted and she is brilliant in the role. Fallon Smythe and Tyler DiChiara play the siblings Harper and Cullen Row, criminals who come from a broken home. Cullen is also one of the first major trans characters that I have seen on network television and is the heart of the show. Navia Ziraili Robinson plays Carrie Kelley, the late Batman’s Robin and she is capable and optimistic. Anna Lore is really great as one of my favorite DC characters Stephanie Brown, really playing a character that is going places. Finally, Misha Collins plays Harvey Dent with a warm charisma. It is really neat seeing some of these rare characters presented in live-action. I never thought I would see Spoiler, Cluemaster, the Dark Knight Returns Robin, or the Joker’s Daughter in anything short of animation. I recommend this show even though it is already canceled.
Batman: The Doom That Came to Gotham
There were a lot of DC animated films to choose from but this one looked the most interesting. Bruce Wayne and his team returns to Gotham in the 1800s to prevent a great evil from destroying Gotham and the world. This is a mix of the Gotham by Gaslight Elseworlds story and Lovecraftian stories. The movie immediately nails the aesthetic of many Lovecraftian tales with body horror and existential dread. David Giuntoli (fittingly of Grimm fame} is great as world-weary traveler Bruce Wayne who once again takes up the mantle of the bat to fight the occult. He is joined by a lot of familiar characters who have slightly different roles like Dick Grayson, Oliver Queen, Kirk Langstrom, Etrigan, Talia, and more. I really love Elseworlds stories as they feel familiar but tell new stories like official fanfiction. I recommend this movie.

Killer High (2018)
I had seen this advertised on SyFy and I definitely wanted to check it out. A young woman is obsessed with putting on an awesome ten-year high school reunion but the school mascot has come to life and is deadly. While this movie feels melodramatic and has some heightened dialogue, it was a really fun horror movie. It also felt true to what a high school reunion is. Kacey Rohl plays the lead, a high-strung woman still obsessed with high school and being a perfectionist. Asha Ashanti plays her best friend who is worried about all of the obsessive behavior. Varun Saranga is great as the one guy from high school who was always eager to please but nobody remembers. Humberly González plays the popular girl who everybody worshipped and who was legitimately good at everything. I really loved the design of the warthog creature as they were able to make it both expressive but also still intimidating. This thing felt real in the space and seemed to be done mostly as a practical effect. The movie was really funny and had some interesting surprises too. I recommend this movie.
Die Die Delta Pi (2013)
I had this movie listed to look up and almost got it confused with a similarly titled movie which I may now watch later. When hazing goes wrong at a sorority in the 1980s, people die and in the present repercussions are felt as people start dropping dead. This is a pretty standard slasher movie on a micro-budget. They did a good job delineating the eighties (with vibrant colors and fashion) from the present. There were not any characters that really stood out except for the villains who were interesting. It was really just an excuse to murder a bunch of sorority and frat members. I do not recommend this movie.
Return to Nuke ‘Em High Volume 1
I have slowly been working my way through this franchise and it is just really wild. Two teen lesbians must navigate high school and also the deadly mutants threatening the school and the town. Once again this movie has the absolute zaniness that makes Troma movies and this franchise in particular into such fever dreams. There is so much body horror and people just being insane that the movie felt like ADHD on film. Catherine Corcoran and Asta Paredes are actually really fun together and actually share a bit of real chemistry in the midst of madness. Mike Baez plays a great snivelly villain. It is really fun that the villains are punk versions of the glee club so we get a lot of old-school barbershop quartet songs while extreme violence and sex is happening. I love how these movies treat toxic waste like it’s a magic wand full of chaos magic. I do not recommend this movie unless you like this sort of movie.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (2023)
I held off on this one because I just did not want it to end. A shadow from Rocket’s past comes back to cause chaos for the Guardians of the Galaxy. This is the culmination of the Guardians' appearances in six and a half movies and they throw everything into it. Kudos to James Gunn for crafting a great farewell movie that leaves things open for the future. He will not be back anytime soon, one assumes. Bradley Cooper and the animators do such a great job of breathing even more relatability into Rocket, my favorite character of the franchise. Chris Pratt returns as Starlord and delivers a strong performance while stepping into the background to give other stories room. Pom Klementieff steals most of the scenes she is in as she gets more to do after hitting it out of the park in the Holiday Special. Similarly, Dave Bautista shows so much growth both with the character and his acting. Karen Gillan, Sean Gunn, Vin Diesel, and Maria Bakalova continue to put in strong performances. Will Poulter is a welcome newcomer playing a powerful himbo. Chukwudi Iwuji plays a great villain, a melodramatic man that I loved to hate. I recommend this movie.
Reacher (2022 - Present)
I do not read the Reacher books (although part of me wants to) but I do consume adaptations. I saw a YouTube clip of the show and it convinced me to finally give this a try. Jack Reacher finds himself wandering into a southern town where he accidentally stirs up a hornets' nest of organized crime. Alan Ritchson is great at embodying a quiet, giant man who just wants the world to be fair and just. I was overjoyed to see Malcolm Goodwin again and he is a snarky cop out of his depth. Willa Fitzgerald is a sassy, no-nonsense cop who sees the good heart in Reacher. Most of the show so far is the chemistry between these three and it is great chemistry. The mystery is interesting and gives plenty of opportunities for fight sequences. I recommend this show.
Jack’s Back (1988)
A random choice while looking for movies to put in the background but this one sucked me in. Somebody is copycatting Jack the Ripper’s kills to the day and a young doctor is caught up in the intrigue when he tries to investigate. James Spader plays twin brothers, one a doctor and the other a drifter, both trying to figure out the mystery. Spader is as magnetic as ever and way too cool for school. Cynthia Gibb plays the female doctor who is along for the ride and helps solve the mystery. Robert Picardo plays a psychologist brought in by the police to help profile the killer. The movie is kind of trippy and has a cool film noir feel to it. I recommend this movie.
