This is a huge bombshell. Not completely surprising seeing as how the Khans are super-rich and Tony has been a huge pro-wrestling fan since.
This is great for Ring of Honor as it is being rescued from ownership by Sinclair Broadcasting. Sinclair shut ROH down at the end of last year and released all talent from their contracts. The message was that they were restructuring and might reinstate the company's operations at a smaller scale. Several wrestlers were snapped up by the Khan's All Elite Wrestling and Impact Wrestling. More than 40 members of AEW's roster passed through ROH at some point as it was an independent wrestling company based in Baltimore that ascended to the national and then international stage.
I remember going to an ROH show nine years ago in 2013, not long after I returned to Baltimore from New Jersey. The show was at the Du Burns Arena downtown and featured a lot of guys who are now huge stars.
There are tons of questions about how Tony Khan will use his new acquisition. Live events were supposed to return later this year and their first pay per view was scheduled for April 1 in Dallas. In the meantime, Khan now owns the massive tape library of ROH (including footage of me!) and will probably put that to good use sooner than later. The announcement was made at the top of the show on TBS tonight and was followed by a match between Christopher Daniels and Bryan Danielson, two guys who were on the very first ROH show. It looks like the company is in good hands.
