More of an in-depth response, as promised:
Jbc2570 wrote: Mon May 08, 2023 1:08 am Hello.... BaseballGOAT over on OOTP. I'm not gonna really mess much with 24 because of the limitations. I'm building a huge saved game tho still for 23. I never patched when they got rid of the NPB. Luckily I'm a beta tester and knew it was happening before it did.
Good deal. We might need to pick your brain for other things...who else to invite over here and such.

As for the 23 vs. 24 thing: while it seems there are patches for 23 which would munge things up in NPB, there are also some serious and continuing problems with current patches for 24 that are completely unrelated to the NPB issue. This doesn't even include the trading issues that were coming up; apparently OOTP is holding off fixing those for now.

I'll admit that I'm coming around to your thoughts on this: that 24 may be too broken to continue with. In other words, we shouldn't use it as a standard.

This is going to be a lot to consider for the future.
Jbc2570 wrote: Mon May 08, 2023 1:08 amCurrently the filters for scrubbing data do not affect player names. So no tweak needed on names if working on the NPB in 24. Team names and league names are the issue. I have a set of team names from another member of the forums over there that supposedly will bypass the filters. Haven't tried it out yet. Maybe later this week?
I believe this is now what we know about the NPB Munge, with some parenthetical questions:
  • The filter detects team names and league names; player names not affected (how about logos?)
  • Some "safe" team/league names are currently being tested
  • The filter only affects NPB
  • The munging algorithm scrambles team/league names and moves the NPB to South Africa
  • 24 munges the NPB right out of the box
  • 23 munges NPB, but only patch X.X.X and after (which patch is the last safe one?) EDIT: 23.9 build 102 is the last known-safe patch
Jbc2570 wrote: Mon May 08, 2023 1:08 amNot a lot of details yet, but there could be a nice Quickstart coming this summer that will put back in a lot of the missing leagues. I can't say much because of who's actually working on the Quickstart. Not sure yet if it will have some edited version of the NPB or not. The list of international leagues that are in or being researched for inclusion is fairly substantial .
Now I'm extremely intrigued! Again, is this a separate project than the one you are working on?

Something to keep in mind: I can create private forums here.

This is a project very similar to what I'm doing. Until it's ready and I see how it's gonna be distributed I won't say a lot about who's actually doing this. But I'm involved as are some familiar names that work on the rosters that ship with the game. Some work has already begun. There were international leagues in the early beta versions of 24, no NPB obviously. No word from the main creators of the Quickstart on if they are planning some version of the NPB. I'd say probably not because or the connections to the company.
I'll keep things update as much as I can without breaking the non disclosure agreement all beta members have to sign. I like getting the game early and free lol . I will be using a lot of their work in my mod as well. I've been collecting College players to fill out my mod from OOTP22, 23, and 24. I've got a saved game where I've been identifying players in the indies and international leagues for players that should've been in OOTP23 but weren't for whatever reason. So I guess you could say I'm porting that mod back to OOTP23 to keep the real NPB.

Also if anyone sees this and is on the non steam PC version of the game and patched the NPB out of your game, I've got a copy of the last version of 23 you could create the NPB still on my onedrive

We'll try not to have you break your NDA.

Again, do we know what the last safe patch is for 23? (I am assuming there are no safe version of 24 at all.)

102 is the last 100% safe patch. You can still create NPB games and everything. The next patch, which i don't have will not scramble the NPB data but won't let you start a new game with the NPB

So Nutt publicly takes me to task for a private message? Classy.

I'm beginning to see PSUColonel's point about the community and what it's becoming...

The link to The Boardwalk is in my sig on the OOTP Forums. I'm very tempted to add, "We don't act like this there..." after that link.
