The Bodyguard Riot
There are signs up everywhere in England and the US when you go see a musical telling you not to sing along. The other patrons are not paying high prices for theater tickets to hear somebody singing in the audience. If you need to sing, don't go to the theater and listen to the album at home.
This is part of the continued evidence that people's behavior and etiquette drastically changed due to the pandemic. All of that time staying home caused people to forget their manners and common decency. It also speaks to how acceptable it is to get blind drunk at a musical. That doesn't sound like a fun time to me. I want to actually remember the experience.
The really scary issue here is that front-of-house workers have to deal with this. They have to put themselves into potentially dangerous and definitely frustrating/frightening situations. They're not paid that much. They can call security or law enforcement but at that point the damage may be done already.
